Intense storms to plough through southeastern Aus

THUNDERSTORMS will spread across southeastern states today and over the weekend with potential to bring damaging winds, flash flooding and large hail.

South Australian residents will be the first to experience this round of storms, throughout Friday. Once storms are in the area people should watch out for falling branches and trees and should take care on the roads.

In general, rainfall from these storms will not be massive but may bring brief intense downpours of 20mm or more.

From Friday afternoon Victoria, Tasmania, the ACT and southern New South Wales come into the firing line.

Over the weekend a low pressure trough will take the most intense storms across NSW and southern parts of the Northern Territory and Queensland.

Severe thunderstorms are likely in all states and territories and may affect all capitals. Perth is the first of all capitals to dry out and can expect a run of dry weather from this Friday until at least mid-next week.

Western Australia will continue to get severe storms into next week, over the interior due to lingering instability.
