Rural women forum tackles climate questions

What makes the difference between wet seasons and droughts? And how is the climate changing over time?

Victorian farming communities and businesses know about fluctuations from wet seasons to dry and the Charlton AgFutures for Rural Women Forum will help explain some of the recent, variable weather.

The free forum, on November 14, will provide information on the award-winning Climate Dogs and will also highlight Whole Farm Planning and current projects happening in the area.

There will also be a presentation from a local equine touch instructor and practitioner – a must see for anyone who owns a horse or is interested in the technique.

DPI AgFutures Project Officer Sheri Streilein said climate variability, increased competition for natural resources, population change and global economic conditions were providing real challenges for rural communities.

“We want to arm local women with practical information about climate change and other topics relevant to the rural community which they can then use to make better informed decision in their businesses,” Ms Streilein said.

“By providing local communities with the most up-to-date and reliable information about changes affecting agriculture, food and fibre producers will have a stronger platform from which to make better long-term decisions.

“We would like to encourage women from Charlton and the surrounding areas to come along and have their questions answered and to enjoy the opportunity to network with other local women,” she said.

The Charlton AgFutures for Rural Women Forum will be held on Monday, November 14 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the Charlton Senior Citizens Centre, 1 High Street, Charlton. Dinner will be provided.

Please contact Sheri Streilein on (03) 5482 0457 or 0429 336 284 to reserve your place. Registrations close on Thursday 10 November.
