Tough competition at Colac Heifer Show

A BAND of dedicated breeders and supporters arrived in Colac for the All Breeds Heifer Show last Thursday afternoon.

The twilight interbreed competition, held before the Colac Show last weekend, attracted stud breeders from across Victoria and as far as South Australia.

Western District Angus breeder, Chris Tarlor, Penlake Angus, Coleraine, judged the heifers, which represented the Simmental, Simbrah, Angus, Miniature Galloway, Maine Anjou and Limousin breeds.

It was Simbrah and Simmental heifers that went home with the top honors on the evening, but Cheryl Hedger’s Limousin heifer, Millennium Springs Greta, took out the first class.

The six-month-old heifer was “a clear winner” according to Mr Taylor, who noted her for her structure and ability to move freely.

“That’s something I’ll be tough on today,” he said. “She’s deep and long bodied and equally as good in the front end.”
