UFC star Ronda Rousey fulfils marine’s viral video wish by attending ball

Mixed martial arts star Ronda Rousey lived up to her promise by attending a Marine Corps Ball with a marine who asked her to be his date in a social media post which went viral in August.

South Carolina marine Jarrod Haschert posted a video on Facebook in August begging her to accompany him.

After introducing himself to Rousey on the video, he said: “You are my celebrity crush. I love everything that you do, and I think that you are a phenomenal person which is why it would be my honour to take you to the Marine Corps Ball on December 11. I really hope this doesn’t get in the way of your training. I hope you take this into consideration, because if you do, you will truly be making my dream come true.”

His video rapidly reached more than four million views.

Rousey, who has kept a low profile since her savage loss to Holly Holm in their UFC title fight in Melbourne a month ago, flew to South Carolina on Friday to meet Haschert.

She was hoping to avoid the media spotlight but was spotted by TMZ en route to the ball.

“Honestly I probably would stay on my couch crying and eating ice cream for another month if he didn’t ask me,” Rousey told TMZ.   A photo posted by Canelo Cotto Pacquiao Golovkin (@oohkillemboxing) on Dec 11, 2015 at 5:04pm PST

In her first post-fight interview during the week, Rousey explained just how painful the defeat to Holm was, not just on a physical level but the way in which it has harmed her reputation.

“I always say you have to be willing to get your heart broken,” Rousey told ESPN. “That’s just what f——g happens when you try. I need to come back. I need to beat this chick. Who knows if I’m going to pop my teeth out or break my jaw or rip my lip open? I have to f—–g do it.”
